An outline planning application has been submitted by Places for People Developments Limited to East Herts Council for 8,500 new homes at Gilston, just north of Harlow, Essex.

The site had been allocated for the development of 10,000 homes as part of the East Herts District Plan 2011-2033 (adopted in October 2018) and in line with the Harlow Local Development Plan Pre-Submission Publication (May 2018) which also identifies improvements to the connectivity over the River Stort to support the growth of Harlow and Gilston Garden Town.

In addition to the outline proposal for housing, there are three other planning applications that have been submitted. One is for alterations to an existing bridge, the second for the construction of new roads, and a pedestrian/cycle bridge and finally the third is for listed building consent for works to Fiddlers Brook Bridge.

Only the outline application is to be determined by East Herts Council, whilst the other applications will be jointly consulted on and managed by East Herts and Harlow Councils.

All the applications have been accompanied by environmental statements.

If residents and businesses want to comment on the applications, they should be directed to East Herts Council only at https://publicaccess.eastherts.gov.uk and typing in the relevant planning application reference number.
