Despite setbacks, it has been confirmed in a letter dated 29 June 2018 to The RTPI and the Chartered Town Planner Apprenticeship Trailblazer Employer Group that the Chartered Town Planning Apprenticeship will receive the highest band of government funding.
The RTPI announced that they had challenged the Institute of Apprenticeships alongside trailblazer group after they rejected the assessment plans for a degree-level planning apprenticeship. Due to this delay universities will not be able to recruit students as planned in September 2018.
The principle of a Chartered Town Planning Apprenticeship was initially agreed in May 2017 but has been awaiting formalisation. Chief Executive of the RTPI, Victoria Hills, has confirmed more than 20 employers and six universities are involved with the new Apprenticeship.
