A new eight-storey hotel has been allowed in Manchester following an appeal hearing. The hotel is proposed on an unauthorised car dealership and car wash business only a short distance from Manchester’s ring road.

The hotel will have 147 bedrooms with parking spaces for 86 cars. Architecturally, it would be faced in brick and have extensive glazed areas, and make a “considerable visual improvement” to the area.

New hotels are encouraged in the more central areas of Manchester as part of their adopted development plan. However the strategic plan 2015-2018 adopted in 2016, extended the city centre boundary northwards and encompasses the appeal site.

The Inspector, Mr G Fort, considered the site was “an up-to-date expression of the council’s strategy” and that it would be viably deliverable as two operators have already expressed an interest in taking on the hotel once complete.
