Maldon and Southend have been ranked within the top 10 local authorities where planning permission is hardest to achieve.
Maldon District Council was ranked tenth with 64% of planning applications submitted being approved in the 2016/17 financial year. They received a total of 398 minor and major applications of which 256 were approved. Meanwhile, Southend-on-Sea Borough Council were ranked eighth with a 64% approval rate. They received 441 applications with 288 approved.
In the year ending September 2017, there were approximately 476,300 planning applications submitted nationwide, of which 434,300 were approved. This equates to an 88% approval rate, up from 82% in the last ten years.
