Plans to regenerate Purfleet (now rebranded as Purfleet-on-Thames) have taken a step closer to reality after the government announced a £75 million cash injection for the project.

It is hoped that the scheme, which has been progressed by Thurrock Council, will deliver a new town centre for Purfleet with shops and restaurants, along with approximately 2,850 new homes.

The proposal also includes a new primary school, a medical centre, improved public realm and better transport connections.

Furthermore, the plans also feature a 1 million square foot media village to support the UK’s television and film industries. Further visions include a university campus specialising in creative arts and the health sector.

The first phase of the scheme was approved in January 2020. However, it is hoped that preliminary works on site will commence as early as this Summer.
